I was looking at picking up a Variable Speed Angle grinder and wanted to see what the Pluses and Minuses are between the Bosch and the Makita Angle Grinders. I know the Bosch is a 5" and Makita has both a 4.5" and a 5" but, I don't know what the major differences are between the two and which is more reliable.

The Bosch 1803EVS 5" variable speed grinder is 9 amps while the Makita 9564CB (4 1/2") and 8565CV (5) are both 12 amps.
While the Bosch has ample power for stoneworking the Makita tools do pack a little more power.
They both hasve a slow speed of 2,800 rpm and the bosch goes up to 11,000 while the Makita's go to 10,500.
I like them both.

Glad to be of service,
Mark

OK, I am leaning toward the Makita. Is there any benefit to the 5" over the 4.5"?

If you use them to cut granite slab the 5" will cut through a 3cm slab while the 4 1/2" won't. It will only cut through a 2cm slab.
What type of work are you doing and what materials and thicknesses do you work with?

I am going to be trying 1 1/4 soapstone. I think I'll pick up the 5" and not have to worry about it.

Thanks

Again, I was in need of some granite company and found something that needed clarification.  Maybe it will get read. Smiley  The size of the grinder will have no effect on your ability to cut through different thicknesses of stone.  That is the blade diameter.  On the tools that we buy in the industry most of us need to remove the guards so there is then no blade restrictions.  For blade sizes you will need at least a 5 inch to get through 3cm.  I have also tried 6 inch blades and found that I can use them on the thickest 3cm material for the whole life of the blade.
