We just had new granite installed in our kitchen yesterday. It's a fairly cheap granite, a mix of black, white, grey bits (sorry, I know that's not technically correct!).

I was there during installation and noticed that the installers used a black permanent marker on the seam to make 'dots' on it. Well, it looks horrible. I don't think they chose the best epoxy colour (kind of pink-ish looking) and I can see the seam the minute I step in the room

Firstly, my gut tells me this is not normal (especially for a $4000 countertop), and I think they could have done a better job.

I've attached two photos and would love to hear some opinions.  Thanks!

youre right, it could be better. the problem is, sometimes the installers arent capable of doing better.

i would politely point it out to them, and ask them if they can re-do the color of glue.

Thanks for the advice.  Luckily the head guy at the company we're dealing with wants to come by and take a look at it for himself.

I'm glad to know that I'm not the only one who thinks using a sharpie pen is odd.

we use sharpies all the time, its an installers best friend. its actually a good thing to use to help blend in, but in your case the color of the glue itself is off. if they get a good color, then re-do the sharpie, it will look great.

I'm curious as to how and when the Sharpie is used for color blending some of the seam.  Does it go on after the colored resin.  How permanant is it?  Do you seal over it?

Thank You.
