Hi! My fireplace's new VERY GLOSSY granite surround stands out WAY too much.  I matched it more to the beige carpet than the dark cherry cabinets which surround the fireplace.  Would it appear less in your (my) face if it had a matte finish?  Is this possible to achieve at this point?  Can the color be enhanced (darkened)?  Thanks Sally

I have asked several fabricators your question and nobody has a good answer yet...Someone said you can tat it with citric acid, but that removes the shine by etching the stone. I suppose you could treat it with that for a very short period and it would blur or dull the polish, but I cannot recommend that. Also, if it is already sealed then you would have to remove the sealer first.

Another person I asked said that you could sand it to a honed finish, but it would not be uniform and it would have no shine whatsoever. Again, I cannot recommend this to you in good faith.

Anyone else have any ideas?
