I am looking to do a minor remodel in my kitchen.  I have granite which I'd like to keep and a recently installed backsplash.  I'm shortening my cabinet run by about a foot which would involve removing the cabinet underneath and the wall hung cabinets, repairing the floor underneath, and removing the extra bit of backsplash.  All of those are easy.  What I'm trying to figure out is if that extra foot of my granite slab can be cut off without being removed.  To remove it, I'd need to ruin the backsplash...

In addition to cutting it shorter, the profile of that cut edge would need to be polished or whatever is required to copy my edge profile.

So my big question is:  can the granite be cut while installed?   If so, who would I get to do the work?

Thanks for any input!

Sure it can be done. They will have to contain the work area to limit the mess but it can be done. I would start with contacting a reputable stone fabricator and see where he takes you from there.
Who's doing the cabinet work and floor work? Are you using a general contractor?
Are you using licensed contractors at all? I would!
What city and state are you located in?

Hi, thanks for your response.

I'm doing a major addition using a NARI member GC who has been great.  His carpenters are doing the cabinet work and we have a sub doing the floor.

I just had granite put in a kitchenette upstairs so I'll start with them.  I'm in the metro Kansas City area, in case you have any local recommendations.

Thanks, Anita
