On your profile bits why does some bits have a 1/2" gas arbor?  Do you need to use a gas like oxygen?  This bit is used on a portable Flex profile machine.  Is it necessary to purchase a bit with this gas arbor when using a Flex profiler?

The 1/2 gas arbor is for the Flex machines. It is also used on some CNC tooling. It is a metric size. Some profiling machines have different arbors. There is no standardization in this industry.

The 1/2 gas arbor is a metric thread that fits into the Flex brand of profile machines as well as a lot of the CNC machines out there who use this arbor with their core bits and finger bits. They have a hollow core to allow water to pass through them to centrally feed the wet diamond tools they are used with.

Below is a picture of a router bit with a 1/2 gas arbor. The width of the threaded part is about 7/8" (Diameter of the threaded arbor).

Glad to be of service,
Mark
