Hello-
I am the new proud owner of some granite countertop.
The installer said that it is not sealed and that I should do that.
Can you tell me what products are best/ok to use.
I visited my local Home Depot and Lowes, and got varying opinions;
some told me not to use the products that are intended for floors
as they have ingrediants that are not healthy to have near food prep.

Also - I have about 40 square feet of counter top .. how much coverage
do i need? - do i need to repeat the process? how many times?
my granite is about an inch thick, and has white background...

?
Thanks so much,
K.

Tenax hydrex! This mineral based sealer won't color enhance your stone.

So simple your child could do it. Simply wipe it on and let it dry, then repeat with a second coat.It dries completely invisible but it will stainproof your stone.
40 square feet? Are you counting the backsplashes and the vertical edges? An average kitchen is 75-80 square feet of stone.

Glad to be of service,
Mark

drop some water on it after your done and if it beads up then your good to go. When the water stops beading up in 6 months or so then you know you need to reseal.

Stone Care International makes a number of products for granite, including sealer. Their products are high quality and you can trust them. Seal at least once a year. Sealer is only part of your answer, though. To keep the granite shiny, use SCI's countertop cleaner or a mild detergent like Dawn for day-to day cleaning. Never use products containing amonia (Windex) or acid (citrus products). To keep your granite shiny, use a polish once a week or once a month depending on how your granite is used. Polish will keep the lustre you are looking for. Sealer simply seals the pores.
