Not sure if this is the correct place for this question but...I visited the granite place where I'm hoping to buy some pre-fabricated slabs for kitchen countertops. The slabs will be 26” wide by 8’ long (2cm). The guy said I need an A-frame or some means to transport the slab sideways. I thought that A-frames were used when transporting multiple slabs. I expect to only need about 3 slabs.  If I can lie each slab flat and have them secured to the bed of the transport and not lay anything on top is there any risk of having them break while in transit.

By laying them flat you are transporting the stone in it's weakest position - the weight is spread across the thickness of the slab. It is much better to stand them on the long side edge for transport like they do on an 'A' frame. The 'A' frame also keeps them from shifting in the back of the truck.

If you are not going to use an 'A' frame and you have to transport these slabs yourself I would make sure they are standing on the long side edge. Clamp them together and set them on something which will act as a "shock absorber". Also make sure you block them in place so they don't shift.

Glad to be of service,
Mark
