I need some advice on glueing seams and filling in a minor surface crack on a granite kitchen project. I have a 45 degree peninsula 2 CM top, but instead of having a regular sink cutout and a full length seam at the angle, I chose to extend the angled piece about 4" into the sink area, then notched it for one end of the sink cutout. Same story on the other end of the sink, then I cut two filler pieces for the front and back edges to complete the sink cutout. Now I have a small seam at each end of the sink, front and back, and the rear seams are only exposed about 1/2" from the sink to the backsplash.
What is the best way to glue these pieces together and make the seams smooth on top? I also have a minor surface crack 6"-8" long in the middle of a 36" top in another part of the kitchen, how do I fill and polish it?  Thanx, Terry

If the pieces are supported from underneath and therefore do not require structural integrity I would use a polyester resin colored to match the base color of the granite. It is easy to use. Cleanup is denatured alcohol and a rag, and it dries with gloss which can be adjusted higher by buffing it with extra fine steel wool. Or your could top polish, but I never recommend this to a do it yourselfer, only to a professional, because it is too easy to mess up your countertop.

Here is the polyester resin glue I would recommend:

Here is the color kit:

You will need razor blades also:

Mix the glue with the color to match, then add your hardener. Do not mix more than you can apply in 10 minutes as this stuff hardens fast. Use a razor blade to bring it back to flush.

We actually show how to do this in one of our DVDs, "Glues and Sealers":

Glad to be of service,
Mark
