I don't grasp the formula for optimal cutting. I have 5" blade Alpha Numero Uno running 1200rpm on a Alpha 125 what is the S.F.P.M. ?  This seems to be running to fast. Will the blade get hot and run out? What effect will I see? Will the blade wear out prematurely? I am going to use it to make a 45 degree cross cut on a 2cm piece of Black Galaxy stone for a small  "L" shaped kitchen top.  Looking for good results. DO I need a 14" saw to cut granite?
Thanks you for your reply.

The SFPM does vary by stone but according to Jake Orlando from Alpha it is a loaded question (too many variables to answer specifically and correctly). We could make up an answer but that's not why you are here!

I assume you are cutting slabs since you are talking about seams. That blade is designed for use on that saw and therefore is NOT running too fast. The Alpha Numero Uno blade is designed for natural stone tiles, not slabs and therefore should not be used for this application.

If you are having problems making straight cuts with the Alpha AWS-125 take a look at this rail system:
http://www.defusco.com/Saws-&-Accessories-Stone-Saws/c40_656/p2550/Alpha-Rail-Saw-Package-without-Saw/product_info.html

This is designed for use with that saw for making straight cuts on slabs of any length. I would rather see you use a different blade with this saw like The Alpha Eclipse II or the Diamante Italia Granite Pro Supreme, but the rail system alone may make all the difference.

When doing laminations sometimes you will still need to backcut the lamination as some blades can flex and the lamination could line up incorrectly. If that is the case use a brazed blade as it is fast and clean cutting.

Glad to be of service,
Mark
