How to select a granite fabricator?

we are remodeling a kitchen in a cabin in Lake Tahoe and have received bids from a few granite fabricators, however, we do not know what selection criterion to use.  Can anyone help us ?

See if your state has a governing board like a registrar of contractors and start there to make sure they do not get a lot of complaints or have a lot of unresolved issues. Then get some references and check them. That would be good for me.

We just had new granite tops installed.  Best suggestion would be to check out the slabs at Exotic Granite and Marble.  http://www.exoticgranite.com/ They have 2 stores that are somewhat near you.  We found that their selection was as good as if not better than most.  Plus they had a list of fabricators that they thought were doing good work.  We used one of their recommended fabricators and are very satisfied with the job.  As Mark said, be sure to check with the State Contractors license board, http://www.cslb.ca.gov/ if you are on the California side of the lake, to make sure that the fabricators license is current and that they haven't had any complaints.
