hello, my name is moe hamdan.  I recently purchased granite countertops but have come across a problem i've created.  My island had a support beam running thru, which consisted of 3 2x2 nailed together, covered by a decorative column.  At the time, the contractor convinced me that is beam served no purpose, so I cut them down so that the granite countertop could cover it.  Now, the ceiling seems to be settling.  i've contacted the builder and he told me that this would happen and that the beam would have to go back up.  So, here is my dilema.  I need to cut a 4inch diameter hole through the granite so that i can insert a pipe-like adjustable support beam that home depot sells.  Is it possible for me to do this?  What, if any, drill bit would you suggest?  Also, I would need to purchase a drill.  Do you recommend a drill with enough rpms powerful enough to do the job?  Thanks!!!

If you are drilling through a granite slab you can do it with a stone cutting core bit. We can have one made for you that will work wet or dry and can be used on a grinder as it has a 5/8"-11 threaded arbor. It will look similar to this one:

Please call me today at 800-289-6834.

Glad to be of service,
