Hello:

In researching I have found that some granite has a higher water absorption percentage than others.  Without going with the Absolute Black which I understand has the least absorption rate, can you suggest others that are fairly good.  I am looking at the New Juparana Persa but am leery because I have read that the Juparana series is rather porous.  I am into low maintenance and do not want to seal the granite every 4 - 6 months.
I have read about the lemon juice test but cannot bring myself to trying this when going through the supplier's yard.

Also, am I correct with my analogy that the rate of absorption in the different granites can be compared to say, the rate a paper towel will absorb water as compared to the rate a terry towel will absorb water?

As far as the rate of absorption, only pumice will compare to a paper towel or a terry towel, granite will not.
You need to get a stone that you like and seal it with a mineral based sealer like Hydrex:

As far as resealing it every 4-6 months, that would be overkill, and sealing takes as much time as this:
Take a rag, wet it with Hydrex, wipe the stone (if it gets wet you have coverage). Allow 5 minutes to dry and give it a second coat.
You can seal an entire kitchen in 10-20 minutes. Even if you did it once a year it is no big deal and it does protect your investment by impregnating the stone against acids as well as stain proofing it.
