 Huh
I think I was ill-advised at a local home improvement store, they reccommended using a all-purpose stone sealer for our granite countertop... Well, now we have a filmy residue on the surface and not the sleek look of the natural stone. What do I do now?
I have done a little bit more research and think I should've used a penetrating stone sealer for countertops only.
How do I remove the exsisting sealer so I can apply the right one? Would denatured alcohol be the right thing to use?
I don't know if it matters, but the stone we have is called New Venetian Gold.
Thanks in advance for your help!

Hello Smiley

The same thing happen to me, I just bought a sealer on home depot, and I almost have to replace the granite, the customer was so sad and angry, I found a wonderful product from aquamix, see the site http://www.aquamix.com/for_professionals/products/pg_detail.asp?pdid=2462&pgid=9833. just put on the stone and leave for +- 30 minutes than just clean, all the old sealer must be removed!
Good Luck

You can remove a sealer with an alkaline solution like caustic soda and water. Then you should reseal with a mineral based sealer like Hydrex:

It dries invisibly and impregnates the stone to stain proof it and make it impervious to acids like citric acids.
