I just saw some slabs at a fabricator that were labeled Amber black, and found what looks to be the same in the Dallas area via the internet, which was labelled mystery granite.  It is a mix of black and yellowish/gold with what appears to be a few scattered crystals (Quartz maybe).  Are these the same?  I found mystery granite elsewhere on the internet but they are all yellow with no black, and are listed as being resined - not sure what that means.  Would these be on OK choice for kitchen countertops?

Thanks,

Slabs are resined for a variety of reasons, but the two most common reasons are :
1) The stone looked bad and was considered unsellable so they resined the stone to enhance the color and therefore make it easier to market.

2) The stone was fractured and the resin gives it structural integrity.

The fact that the stone is resined is not really important. Any stone makes a good countertop IF YOU LIKE THE STONE! It is your preference. If the stone has the surface you like and the look you want all you need to do is get the edge detail correct and supply a cabinet for it to sit on.

If these are resin enhanced slabs you might seal them differently and you might not. If the edge detail gets lighter than the top surface you would seal the edge detail with a color enhancing sealer and the top surface with a non color enhancing sealer.
