I purchased a vanity top of Dakota Mahogany Granite(3cm thick), (65"x 22") and had an undermount sink installed. I was going to install this top myself, but after reading various items on the internet regarding granite handling and installation I am now having second thoughts. Do these various warnings more aptly apply to larger pieces?

First question - which is proper way to transport or move granite holding vertically or flat, supported on a board of some type? I have to get to second floor.

Second - with the size mentioned above and it fitting wall to wall, any tips on handling to put in place?

Third - some sites refer to the density or strength of the granite, is there a place where these specifications for my top can be found?

Dakota mahogany is a strong granite and is less fragile than others but proper care in trasporting it still needs to be used.
Always carry granite vertically. If you carry it horizontally you are asking for it to snap at the weak spot.
If you have a sink cutout already done on the piece (and you should if this is an install), using some 2x4's clamped along the top and bottom of the cutout the length of the piece will distribute the weight better so you don't get deflection at the weak points which is what causes breaks.
When you put it in place stand it up vertically at the install point, then dry fit it to make sure it is being installed level. Lift again and silicone underneath it on the substrate and carefully lower into place.

Glad to be of service,
Mark
