I have a granite counter top that is 1 1/8" thick that has a crack in it.  This crack occurred within the first 6 weeks after installation.  The installers used 1 x 1 x 1/2" wood blocks and fastened the cabinet sides and counter top with Bondo to support it.  The only shims put in were at the seam where the two slabs meet in order to level them.  The blocks did not stick to the cabinets leaving the counter top unsupported.  I feel that this is why the counter top now has a crack in it.  Should there have been more shims put in to support the top?  Are the blocks supposed to support the top?

It sounds like there should have been more shims used. Did you contact the contractor to have this problem taken care of? they should fix or replace it for you.
