Hey, been installing granite for 6 weeks now, decided to fab a kitchen for my brother as practice.

I got into the top of the counter top with a 50 grit wet polishing pad and obviously scratched it up pretty good (Bad).  So I tried to polish it out, but the best I can get is a "smokey" looking finish that is about 5 shades whiter than the shiney black surface (uba tuba color).

So basically my question is what do i need to use (productys and pads) to back to the matching shiney black surface, and not have the cloudy smokey whitish black finish?

Thanks in advance,
chase

Chase,
did you do this across the entire top surface or just parts of it? If it is the entire surface you should take the slab to a shop that has a radial arm polisher and let them do it for you. If it is just certain parts use a set of pads designed for top polishing like these:

If it is already installed you may have to do it yourself with pads like these anyways, just practive on scrap first.
The lighter finish usually means you did not use the coarser pads enough. If you need to discuss this with people who can help our office number is 800-289-6834.

Glad to be of service,
Mark
